The state of Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the US. Both the Columbia and Snake Rivers pass through its borders. The Pacific Ocean lies directly to its east. The state's largest metropolitan area is that of Portland. Oregon was the 33rd state to join the Union.

The film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed at the Oregon State Hospital. Exteriors of the Overlook Hotel in the film The Shining were filmed at Timberline Lodge.
