While a student at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, she worked as a Fox Sports reporter. Following her college graduation, she was employed by ABC and NBC affiliates in North Carolina and Ohio.

Apart from her television hosting duties, she pursued a career as a North Carolina-based fitness trainer.

Born to business executive parents of Dutch ancestry, she was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.
