German automotive engineer who created the Volkswagen Beetle and the early Porsche cars. He also created the first electric hybrid automobile.

Before Fame

He crashed college engineering classes and worked as a mechanic. At the age of 18, one of his first jobs was at an electrical company in Vienna, and he was quickly promoted after his superiors recognized his natural prowess for working with machines. 

Trivia

During WWII, he helped design and build Germany's fearsome tanks. Before that, he burst onto the international scene after showcasing his wheel-hub engine at the 1900 World's Fair. 

Family Life

He married Aloisia Johanna Kaes, and they had two children together.

He briefly served as the chauffeur for Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
