US Senator from Oregon who served in the Senate from 1946 to 1969 as a Republican, Independent, and Democrat. He is best known for his early opposition to the Vietnam War and for leading several anti-war marches and protests.

Trivia

He lost his seat in the senate to Bob Packwood because of his stance against the war in Vietnam as he was one of only two Senators who opposed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which authorized the president to take military action in Vietnam without a declaration of war.

He was married to Mildred Morse and was the child of Wayne Lyman and Jessie Elnora Morse.
