About

Before moving to Oakland in 1968, the franchise was based in Philadelphia and Kansas City. The team won a 9th World Series title in 1989.

Trivia

The team's success in the early 2000s was greatly due to evidence-based sabermetrics, a new practice at the time that inspired the popular book Moneyball and a film adaptation starring Brad Pitt as Athletics general manager Billy Beane.
