Belgian cartoonist most recognized for his comic strips, Gaston and Marsupilami, among others. In 1980, he won the Adamson Award for his contributions to the industry.
His parents saw his potential from an early age and enrolled him in classes at École Saint-Luc in 1943.
In 1996, he was presented with the Special Prize for Outstanding Life’s Work at the Max & Moritz Prizes in Germany.
He was raised in Etterbeek, Belgium.
He and singer James Taylor both notoriously suffered from extreme depression.
