Astronomer and founder of the Skalnate Pleso Observatory in Slovakia. He became famous for his star charts and for his discovery of a comet known as C/1947 F2.
He was ill throughout his entire life, so he ended up spending a lot of his time in the High Tatra Mountains of Slovakia.
His star charts were published in the Skalnate Pleso Atlas of the Heavens.
He was born and and raised in the Czech town of Stara Boleslav.
His star charts inspired many compositions by John Cage, including Etudes Boreales.
