First Roman Emperor and relative of Julius Ceasar. He greatly expanded Rome's territories, annexing Egypt, Dalmatia, Pannonia, Noricum, and Raetia. His reign began an era of relative peace known as the Pax Romana.
He was raised by Julia Caesaris, Julius Caesar's sister.
Upon his death he was declared a diety. The month of August was named in his honor.
Several of William Shakespeare's plays incorporated him as a major character.
