Swedish politician who is known for having served as the Leader of the Christian Democrats as well as Minister for Social Affairs. He is also known for having been a member of the Riksdag representing Christian Democrats.
He started his career in politics with the Christian Democratic youth organization. He moved his way up and started working for the party's Parliamentary Secretary in 1985. He was then elected as a Member of Parliament in 1991,
He is known for having been behind several reforms while serving as minister including the reform to the health insurance system, the municipal allowance, the abolishment of the pharmacy monopoly, and the legislation of same-sex marriages.
He was born in Degerfors in Central Sweden but was raised in Jonkoping. He has two children.
He served as a member of the Alliance for Sweden party which united several centre-right groups and was headed by Moderate Party member Fredrik Reinfeldt.
