John Powell

About

Composer best known for his work on films such as Wicked: Part One, The Bourne Supremacy, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Shrek, and Happy Feet. His 2010 score for the film How to Train Your Dragon earned him his first Academy Award nomination. He frequently uses live percussions, especially the Indian Conga drum.

Before Fame

He composed music for the 1990s British series Stay Lucky. 

Trivia

He was also nomiated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for Wicked: Part One.

Family Life

He was married to photographer Melinda Lerner. She died in 2016, at age 56.
