Known for such hit songs as "Soul Man," "Hold On! I'm Comin,'" and "You Are So Beautiful," this Grammy Award-winning R&B and soul vocalist and songwriter is most famous for his work with the Sam & Dave music duo.
He and his Sam & Dave collaborator, Dave Prater, first became acquainted in 1961 at a Miami, Florida music venue called The King of Hearts Club. They went on to record music with Roulette Records, Atlantic Records, and Stax Records, and soon released the 1965 hit "You Don't Know Like I Know."
Although he sent then-presidential candidate Barack Obama a cease and desist order when Obama's campaign was making use of his songs, Moore went on to perform with Elvis Costello and Sting at Obama's 2009 inaugural ball.
He was born and raised in Miami, Florida. In 1982, he married Joyce McRae, who helped him conquer his addiction to drugs.
He contributed to Don Henley's 1984 album Building the Perfect Beast.
