American actress known for her work in the films Dreamgirl (2006), Middle of Nowhere (2012), and A Wrinkle in Time (2018) and for her work in the shows The Gaze: No Homo (2020), Bosch: Legacy (2022), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2021), and ER (2005).  

Before Fame

She attended the Sewell Music Conservatory in Washington, DC. She first worked as an understudy in the original 1981 Broadway musical Dreamgirls. 

Trivia

She was crowned Miss Black America D.C. in 1981. She toured on Broadway during the 1980s before focusing on film and television work in the 1990s.

She was born and raised in the United States.

She appeared in an episode of The King of Queens (1998) starring Kevin James, Leah Remini, and Jerry Stiller. She acted alongside Beyoncé in Dreamgirl (2006).
