Molecular biologist who developed a method to identify RNA and DNA molecules in cells and investigated the molecular basis of cancer. He received a Lasker Award in 1974 for his research and contribution to medical science.

He studied at City College of New York and Columbia University.

Trivia

He created an RNA chain of only 218 nucleotides that is able to be reproduced by an RNA replication enzyme and it is often called "Spiegelman's Monster".
