He was born into a family of cooks and began cooking himself at the age of fourteen. Then, when he moved to Sydney, Australia, he began his career by working in a restaurant as a dishwasher.
He has grown a massive social media audience, with more than 140,000 Instagram followers and over 100,000 Twitter followers.
His father hails from Surabaya and his mother from Kupang. His mother and grandmother were both chefs and the latter owned a restaurant.
His brother Reynold Poernomo was a contestant on season seven of MasterChef Australia.
