American poet, playwright, essayist, and academic known for her association with the Language Poets. Her published works include Memory Play, There Never Was a Rose Without a Thorn, and Gardener of Stars.
She studied at San Francisco State University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. She later taught at Bard College and Eastern Michigan University.
She helped to found The San Francisco Poets Theatre in 1979.
She grew up in California. She later married fellow poet Barrett Watten.
She was the co-editor of a publication dedicated to the literary work of Kathy Acker.
