Before Fame
He and his brother, Willy Braun, created Reckless Kelly together in Stanley, ID in 1996. The following year, they relocated to Austin, TX to engage in the city's famed music scene. The band's early years included a residency at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar, where they began their rise to fame.

Family Life
He and his brother Willy Braun were raised in Idaho's White Cloud Mountains and spent their youth performing with their father, Muzzie Braun, in the western swing group Muzzie Braun & the Boys. Their grandfather, Mustie Braun, was also a renowned musician.
