Award-winning Spanish writer known for her novels Irlanda, Melocotnes Helados, and Soria Moria. Her work has been translated in more than half a dozen languages, including Chinese and Japanese.
She grew up studying classical music before attending the University of Deusto, where she received a degree in English.
In 1999, she became the youngest person to win the Premio Planeta. She's also won a Premio Ateneo de Sevilla and has advocated for ending bullfighting.
Her full name is María Laura Espido Freire.
