Northern Irish TV and stage actress known for her role as Aunt Sarah McCool on the Channel 4 comedy series Derry Girls along with her work in other screen projects including Pulling Moves, Bloody Sunday, Omagh, The Pale Horse, Bloodlands, and A Bend in the River.
Before fame
She attended St Louise's Comprehensive College where she first discovered her passion for acting. She helped form a small theatre company with classmates while still in school and toured Ireland performing original work. Her group performed on the Olivier Stage at London's National Theatre which was an experience that confirmed her decision to pursue acting professionally rather than attend university. She began working steadily in theatre productions across the UK. Her first on-screen appearances came in the early 1990s. She appeared in the music video for Blur's song "For Tomorrow" and made her television debut playing Bernadette Brennan in the series Head over Heels in 1993. She appeared in the film Bloody Sunday in 2002. She appeared in multiple episodes of Pulling Moves in 2004. She was cast and began appearing in her most iconic role in Derry Girls in 2018.
Trivia
She appeared in three episodes of the Hidden Ireland documentary podcast series in 2020. She received an IFTA nomination for her acting work in the critically acclaimed film Bloody Sunday in 2002. Her performance in the stage production of Medea earned industry recognition.
