Saxophonist who recorded the American Bandstand theme "Bandstand Boogie" and appeared on more than thirty albums over the course of his career.
He played with many jazz ensembles as a young man and collaborated with his brother who was also a musician.
He dabbled in avant-garde jazz, recording tracks such as "Impressions of Outer Space" and "Music for Barefoot Ballerinas."
Both of Elgart's parents were pianists.
Elgart and his brother hired Nelson Riddle to participate in their ensemble.
