Mikie Sherrill

U.S. Navy veteran, former federal prosecutor, and politician known for being a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing New Jersey's 11th Congressional District and for becoming the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Jersey in 2025.

Before Fame

She graduated from South Lakes High School. She pursued aviation at Annapolis after being inspired by a grandfather who flew in WWII. She was part of the first wave of women eligible for direct assignment to combat aircraft after policy changes in the early 1990s. She left active duty in 2003 with the rank of lieutenant. She transitioned to law and worked at Kirkland & Ellis before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office. She became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2015. She ran for the House in 2018 and became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019.

She was born Rebecca Michelle Sherrill. She was born in Alexandria, Virginia. She has lived in Montclair, New Jersey, with her husband Jason Hedberg and their four children for many years.
