Multimedia, postminimalist artist known for "Red Canvas," "Paper Octagonals," and other small-scale works. He also favored the silkscreen printing process, as evidenced by "Shirts" from 1978 and "Pants" from 1979.

Before Fame

He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1963. He then studied for one semester at Cooper Union, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force for a short time. He was employed by the Betty Parsons Gallery.

Trivia

He received both the Aachen Art Prize and the Skowhegan Medal for Sculpture in 1998.

Family Life

His parents were residing in Rahway, New Jersey, when he was born, and they raised him in Roselle. He married poet Mei-mei Berssenbrugge.
