Historical figure who helped lead explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark across the Louisiana Territory to the Pacific Ocean. She was just a teenager at the time of the expedition and she travelled thousands of miles with Lewis and Clark. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe.
Before Fame
She was taken captive by another Native American tribe when she was about 12 years old.
Trivia
In 2000, the US began minting dollar coins with her likeness on them to honor her. She has also had several parks named after her.
