Before fame
He attended Northumberland High School in Heathsville, Virginia, and graduated in 1975. He enrolled at and attended Norfolk State University where he studied mass communications and developed an interest in journalism and television broadcasting. He gained his first professional experience in television while still in college by working as a news writer intern at an ABC affiliate station in Norfolk, Virginia. His major TV breakthrough came in 1993 when he met an executive producer of the television show America's Most Wanted and was offered a job with the program. He initially worked behind the scenes as a producer but three years as a producer he transitioned into an on-air correspondent role. He spent many years working with America's Most Wanted. He joined the A&E series Live PD when the show premiered in 2016.
Trivia
He helped develop the "Wanted" segment on Live PD. He also helped create a "Missing" segment that worked with organizations such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to bring attention to missing persons cases. He has served as the narrator of the television series Fugitives: Caught on Tape. He joined the Greater New York Board of Directors of the American Red Cross in 2019.
Family life
He was born in Richmond, Virginia, and spent much of his childhood moving to various communities because his father was a Baptist preacher. His father was Rev. T. Wright Morris and his mother is Dr. Eleanor Morris. His family eventually settled in the Northern Neck region of Virginia when he was a teenager.
