Abby Lee Miller

About

Director of Reign Dance Productions, formerly Abby Lee Dance Company, and the principal cast member of Lifetime's Dance Moms. She developed a reputation for pushing her students to the edge of their capabilities to prepare them for competitions.

Before Fame

She grew up immersed in dance under the guidance of her mother, Maryen Lorrain Miller, a respected educator and studio owner. Inspired by a childhood surrounded by choreography and competitions, she opened the Abby Lee Dance Company in Pittsburgh, where she developed her reputation for high standards and polished technique.

Trivia

Many of her students have gone on to appear in film, television, Broadway, Disney productions, national tours, and commercial campaigns. Her masterclasses often sell out across the U.S. and abroad. Iconic moments from Dance Moms continue to trend on social media and remain a major part of pop-culture conversation.

Family Life

Her mother, Maryen Lorrain, was a member of Dance Masters of America for five decades, and ran several dance studios, where she first picked up dance. Abby had a white Bichon Frise dog named Broadway Baby who passed away in 2012. In April 2018, Abby was diagnosed with cancer. Her battle has now confined her to a wheelchair.

Associated With

Mackenzie Ziegler was one of her young charges on Dance Moms. Abby and Kurt Ziegler, Mackenzie's father, went to high school together at Penn Hills High.
