A magician and computer programmer who created the Elmsley Count - a card trick where one is hidden while the cards are passed from one hand to another.
He started experimenting with magic when he was a teenager in 1946 prior to enrolling at Cambridge University.
In 1972, he was awarded the AMA Creative Fellowship.
He was brought up in St Andrews, Scotland.
He and scientist Pyotr Kapitsa both studied at Cambridge University.
