Became head coach of the Houston Texans in 2014 after serving as head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions from 2012 to 2013; named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2012 while also receiving the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award for the NCAA's top head coach.
He played defensive end and linebacker at Brown University from 1990 to 1992.
His first NFL job came with the New England Patriots; between 2007 and 2011, he filled many roles for the team, working as an assistant, as well as a specialist for the wide receivers and quarterbacks. In his last season with the team he was promoted to offensive coordinator.
He was born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
He worked closely under legendary coach Bill Belichick during his time with the New England Patriots.
