Race car driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his brother Don.
He began racing airplanes before cars and won a number of races in Reno, Nevada from 1978 to 1983.
He was sentenced to 15 years of prison in 1986 for income tax evasion and smuggling marijuana into the United States.
His brother Don Whittington shared his passion for racing and was also involved in drug smuggling.
He raced in the 1980 Indianapolis 500 which was won by Johnny Rutherford .
