Before Fame
He earned a business degree from the University of Iowa. He spent roughly two decades for UnitedHealthcare after joining in 2004. He rose through finance and Medicare leadership roles before becoming CEO of UnitedHealthcare in April 2021. He was shot and killed by Luigi Mangione outside the New York Hilton Midtown on December 4th, 2024, while he was in Manhattan for an investor event.

Family Life
He grew up in Jewell, Iowa and relocated to Minnesota after graduating from college. He was married to Paulette Thompson, and they had two sons together.
