English politician who is known for having served as the Leader of the Green Party from 2016 until 2018. She is also known for having served as a Member of Parliament for Brighton Pavilion.
She attended both the University of Kansas as well as the University of Exeter. She then earned her PhD from Exeter University in 1989. She first joined the Green Party in 1986 which launched her career in politics. She was first elected to serve as a Member of Parliament in 1999 where she represented South East England.
She is known for having received the Michael Kay Award for her outstanding contributions to animal welfare from the RSPCA organization. She is also known for having won the Politician of the Year award by The Observer press outlet on multiple occasions.
She was born and raised in Malvern in Worcestershire, England. She married Richard Savage and together they have two sons.
She was preceded by fellow politician Natalie Bennett as Leader of the Green Party.
