Jamaican-American philosopher known for authoring the 1997 book, The Racial Contract. He was appointed as a Distinguished Professor at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Prior to this appointment, he was the John Evans Professor of Moral and Intellectual Philosophy at Northwestern University.
Before fame
In 1976, he obtained his Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. In 1985, he earned his PhD in Philosophy, also from the University of Toronto.
Trivia
He won the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award for his book The Racial Contract. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1971, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of West Indies.
Family life
He was born to Gladstone and Winnifred Mills.
