Rock singer, songwriter, and actor known for being the lead vocalist of the band Living Colour and for being the voice behind the Grammy winning 1988 song "Cult of Personality." He is also known for releasing music with groups such as Ultraphonix, Disciples of Verity, and Sonic Universe.
Before fame
He initially pursued acting and appeared in films during his early twenties. His breakthrough in music came in 1985 when guitarist Vernon Reid invited him to join Living Colour after hearing him sing at a gathering. He and Living Colour built a reputation on the New York club scene before signing a record deal and releasing their debut album Vivid in 1988 which included the Grammy winning song "Cult of Personality." He and Living Colour released their hit album Time's Up in 1990.
Trivia
He appeared in the Vietnam War film Platoon in 1986 before Living Colour achieved mainstream success. He portrayed Judas in the stage production Jesus Christ Superstar during the mid-to-late 2000s.
