She began learning the trade of home renovation from her mother at a young age. She attended Queen's University, earning a degree in English Literature and Art History. She then moved to New York with her husband, Greg, and studied design at the Parsons School.
Trivia
In 2010, after moving to a rundown home, her mortgage broker put her in contact with a production company in Canada to aid in covering the costs of renovation. Soon after this, the W Network created the Building Bryks TV show for her and her family. She eventually earned her contractor's license.

She often appears on her TV shows with her husband and three children. She also has two dogs, named Ferdinand and Lucky.
