Before fame

He began playing basketball as a child in the Dominican Republic. He represented the Dominican Republic at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup where he was noticed by US college basketball recruiters. He then attended Teays Valley Christian School in West Virginia, where he continued to develop as a high-level college prospect. He began his college career at DePaul University in 2021. He transferred to St. John's University for the 2022-23 season before making a final transfer to Memphis in 2023 where he delivered a nationally recognized breakout year. He earned a two-way NBA contract with the San Antonio Spurs in July 2025 after a strong Summer League performance.

Trivia

He recorded the first triple-double in DePaul basketball history with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in 2022. He was named to the NBA G League All-Rookie Team in 2025

His full name is David Apolinar Jones García. He was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, before moving to the United States for his basketball career. His father passed away in 2023.
