PGA Player of the Year in 1955 who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
He was a talented baseball player and received a contract offer from the New York Yankees.
He won two Major Championships: the PGA Championship in 1955, and the Masters Tournament in 1957.
He was born and raised in West Haven, Connecticut.
His first professional win came in 1952, when he tied Sam Snead, only to have Snead forfeit before the playoff.
