AFL centre who made a name for himself as a member of the Richmond Tigers, becoming an AFL Rising Star nominee in his rookie season. In 2012 he was named to the AFL Players Association 22under22 team as one of the league's finest young players.
He played for his hometown team Castlemaine in the Bendigo Football League as well as the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup.
He was named the 2014 Talking Tigers Player of the Year by listeners of the official Richmond podcast, Talking Tigers. He won the 2017 Brownlow Medal.
His mother Kathy is from Australia. His father Shane is Maori and from New Zealand.
He has been teammates with Trent Cotchin at Richmond.
