Women's rights activist who was one of the first advocates of giving Nigerian women the right to vote.
She studied in England and returned to Nigeria to become involved with politics, including becoming a member of the Western House of Chiefs of Nigeria.
She helped abolish the separate tax rates for women in Nigeria.
She was married to Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome Kuti.
One of her sons is musician and activist, Fela Kuti.
