Murderer who was sentenced to death by firing squad following the killing of Max Jensen and Bennie Bushnell. In 1977, he became the first person to be executed in the United States in ten years.

He dropped out of high school as a freshman and started stealing cars at age fourteen.
Trivia
His last words before his execution, "let's do it," have become famous in popular culture. Dan Wieden, who came up with Nike's "Let's Do It" slogan, claims that Gilmore inspired the slogan.
Family Life
His father was a con man who, along with Gary's mother, lived under the fake name Coffman to avoid the law at the time of his birth.

Tommy Lee Jones won an Emmy for portraying him in the 1982 television movie "The Executioner's Song."
