Baseball executive who was a successful farm system director/general manager for the New York Yankees and general manager/club president for the New York Mets.
One of his earliest baseball managing jobs came in 1930 when he took over the Class AA International League Baltimore Orioles for two years.
He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
He was born in New Haven, Connecticut and attended Yale University.
