Remembered for his acclaimed career as both a television comedy writer and a producer, he worked on such popular British television series as Have I Got News for You, You Only Live Once, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

Before Fame

After completing a degree in history at Brasenose College, Oxford University, he worked as an apprentice for the BBC's Newsnight program; he later produced the popular News Quiz series.

Trivia

He was a writer and creator of a darkly comic adult cartoon series titled Monkey Dust.

Family Life

His affair with English journalist and poker player Victoria Coren ended his marriage to Fiona Duff, the mother of his two sons. On the morning of the day that he died of lung cancer, he married his second wife, Lisa Whadcock.

Associated With

As a writer for the British satirical series The 11 O'Clock Show, he was responsible for creating actor Sacha Baron Cohen's famous "Ali G" character.
