The mother of rock legend and U2 frontman Paul David Hewson, better known as Bono. She passed away when he was only fourteen and would later become the subject of his song "Iris."
During the 1980s, Bono penned the songs "I Will Follow" and "Tomorrow" about his mother's death.
She was a member of the Church of Ireland and there was debate during Bono's childhood about whether he and his brother would be raised Anglican or Catholic.
She passed away from an aneurysm at her own father's funeral. She and husband Brendan Robert "Bob" Hewson had two children together: Paul David and Norman Hewson.
She passed away long before she would ever get to meet her granddaughter, actress Eve Hewson.
