Two-term member (from 1854-1865) of New Brunswick, Canada's Legislative Assembly. He also served, at various points in his career, as Postmaster General and County Court Judge.
He began his legal career in 1844 in the city of Moncton, New Brunswick.
In his later life, he settled in the New Brunswick capital of Fredericton.
His two marriages were to Julia Beckwith (first) and Emma Jane Turnbull (second).
He and William Pugsley were both New Brunswick politicians of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
