She was born Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in California. She attended Parsons School of Design. 

Trivia

She has a genetic condition called inconsistencia pigmente that affects the skin, teeth, and hair. She won Glamour's 2012 Women of the Year award. Growing up, she was bullied. She was dubbed in 2013 as "the woman that dresses America."

Family Life

She has a son named Beckett who she had with her former husband Vincent Mazeau. She has a brother named Spencer and Barbara Lyons is her mother.
