He was born in Masterton, New Zealand and made his first class debut for Central Districts in 2002.

Trivia

In 2013, he was put into a medically-induced coma following an assault on him outside a bar in Christchurch that left him with a collapsed lung and a fractured skull.

He was abandoned by his parents at a young age and spent his adolescence sleeping at friend's houses.

He played alongside team captain Daniel Vettori on the New Zealand squad which made the semi-finals of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
