Member of the prominent Von Erich wrestling family, he was a WWF Intercontinental Champion. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
He began wrestling in his father's NWA Texas promotion, holding many of its Tag Team titles, and then moved to the WCW.
His later wrestling career took a darker turn, as a motorcycle accident badly injured his foot, which eventually had to be amputated; he got addicted to pain killers as a result.
