Architect and interior designer who created the Theater of Performing Arts at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He was known for his simple designs and use of concrete and floating volume.
He studied with De La Salle University in 1935, but World War II forced him back to his hometown. He was a talented pianist who considered a career in music.
He was named a National Artist of the Philippines for Architecture in 1990 by President Corazon C. Aquino.
His grandfather was the first governor of Silay City, Negros Occidental. He married Cecilia Lulo and had two children, one of whom also became an architect.
He and Vanessa Minnillo were both born in the Philippines.
