Before Fame
She attended Tishigu Anglican Elementary School before enrolling at Ghana Secondary School. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management and a Master's degree in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. She continued her education internationally at De Montfort University in the United Kingdom. She worked as a trained caterer and hospitality manager before she entered public life as Second Lady in 2009 after her husband John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as Vice President. She first became First Lady in July 2012 after John Dramani Mahama assumed the presidency.

Family Life
She grew up in both the Brong-Ahafo Region and Tamale in Northern Ghana. She married John Dramani Mahama in 1992, and they have five children together named Shafik, Shahid, Jesse, Sharaf, and Farida.
