Most famous for her Daytime Emmy-winning portrayal of Rae Woodard on the 1970s and 1980s ABC soap opera Ryan's Hope, this actress also appeared in numerous other daytime dramas, including All My Children, The Edge of Night, and Guiding Light. She also wrote for several soaps, including As The World Turns and General Hospital.
After studying at the Yale School of Drama, she trained as a coloratura soprano at the Juilliard School's music program.
During the 1960s and 1970s, she acted in New York theatrical productions of The Beggar's Opera, The Boss, and The Women.
Her first marriage was to an actor named Toby Tompkins. She later wed fellow soap opera writer Roger Crews.
On the late 1960s soap opera Where the Heart Is, she played the sister of actor James Mitchell's character.
