Moses Barrow

Belizean politician and former rapper known for representing Mesopotamia in Belize's House of Representatives from 2020 to 2025 and serving twice as Leader of the Opposition. He is also known for sharing political commentary, music history, interview clips, and career updates with more than 500,000 followers on Instagram and known for his rap music.

Before fame

He worked as a bicycle messenger and studied computer technology at the New York City College of Technology before pursuing music. He was discovered by DJ Clark Kent while freestyling in a Brooklyn barbershop in 1998 and released his debut album Shyne in September 2000.

Trivia

His life and transition from music to politics were chronicled in the 2024 Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne. He began transitioning into public service in 2010 when he was appointed Belize's Music and Goodwill Ambassador.

Family life

He was born Jamal Michael Barrow and grew up between Belize City, Belize and Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Frances Myvette and Dean Barrow who became Belize's first Black prime minister in 2008. He married businesswoman Catherine in 2017, and their daughter Naomi was born in 2018.
