Famous for her recordings in the blues, jazz, and neo soul genres, this acclaimed singer released three albums - Curious, All I Am, and Soul Deep -between 1999 and 2009. She received a 2009 Spellemannsprisen and performed at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

Before Fame

She began performing when she was just eight years old and had secured a Warner Music contract by the time she was fifteen. Her debut album included such hit singles as "Official" and "Need You."


She contributed to a 2007 recording produced by the Norwegian hip-hop group Madcon and also collaborated with members of the American swing and blues band Little Charlie & The Nightcats.

Family Life

The daughter of a Somali father and a Yemeni mother, she grew up in both the United Arab Emirates and Norway.

Associated With

Nicknamed the "Norwegian Queen of Soul," she was often compared to the American soul music diva Aretha Franklin.
