Before fame
He began skating and playing hockey at a young age and developed within the youth system of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. He moved through multiple Russian youth and junior clubs as a teenager. His early career included time with teams such as Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, Rus Moscow, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, and Kapitan Stupino. His first major step abroad came in 2021-2022 when he joined Sobol in Belarus. He signed with UNI Győri ETO HC in Hungary in 2022. He continued his European path in 2023-2024 with HC Stadion Cheb in the Czech Republic and later moved to Tisza Volán in Hungary for the 2024-2025 season.

He was born and raised in Yaroslavl, Russia. His father Aleksey Karpov is known for a background in multiple combat and athletic disciplines and his mother worked in banking. He is the younger brother of professional soccer player Nadezhda Karpova.
